ITINERARY

  • A coordination and equipment check meeting will be held the day before the ascent.
  • We will depart from Puerto Varas at 3:30 AM, heading towards the base of the Osorno Volcano at 1200 meters above sea level.
  • We will register at the CONAF offices and begin the hike, reaching the edge of the glacier after approximately two hours. At this location, we will gear up and conduct a technical briefing, during which the guide will instruct participants on the use of ice axes, crampons, and roped walking techniques. The technical briefing will last approximately 35 minutes.
  • We will then proceed to cross the glacier towards the summit of the volcano. After 45 minutes, the slope will begin to steepen. Upon reaching 2,500 meters above sea level, the guide will set a snow anchor, and the group will climb the final 150 meters secured from above by the guide.
  • Upon reaching the summit, the scenery is breathtaking. A 360° panoramic view reveals numerous volcanoes of the Patagonian Andes, such as Puntiagudo, Tronador, Calbuco, Casa Blanca, Yates, Villarrica, and Lanín, among others. Here, we will have lunch while enjoying the sights of the shores of lakes Todos los Santos, Rupanco, Ranco, and Llanquihue, as well as the Petrohué River. If the weather permits, the Pacific Ocean can also be seen from this point.
  • Around 1:00 PM, we will begin the descent, which will take approximately three hours to return to the CONAF office. From there, we will start the journey back to Puerto Varas, arriving at approximately 5:00 PM.
