Lake Llanquihue Cycling Challenge

Experience one of the most exciting cycling adventures in southern Chile. The Lake Llanquihue Cycling Challenge is designed for passionate cyclists seeking a demanding yet rewarding ride. This 100-mile loop circles the second-largest lake in Chile, offering diverse landscapes, scenic roads, and incredible views of the Andes and nearby volcanoes.

Stage 1: Puerto Varas to Puerto Octay

The first stage covers 55 km from Puerto Varas to the historical town of Puerto Octay. Along this section, riders enjoy breathtaking views of Osorno and Calbuco Volcanoes while pedaling through old German settlers’ farmlands. Gentle rolling hills and peaceful countryside make this part both challenging and inspiring. Transitioning between rural landscapes and lakeside roads, this stretch sets the perfect tone for the day’s adventure.

Stage 2: Toward Osorno Volcano

After passing Puerto Octay, the second stage of the Lake Llanquihue Cycling Challenge begins. This 60 km ride heads east toward the Andes Mountains and the iconic Osorno Volcano. Known for its perfect conical shape, Osorno dominates the horizon as riders navigate winding roads surrounded by lush forests and open valleys. This section requires endurance, but the incredible scenery rewards every effort. The ride around the volcano is a highlight for any cyclist visiting Chile’s Lake District.

Stage 3: Ensenada to Puerto Varas

Arriving in Ensenada marks the start of the final section—45 km back to Puerto Varas. Ensenada’s strategic location between volcanoes and national parks makes it the hub for many outdoor adventures in the region. This last stretch is more relaxed, featuring gentle climbs and constant lake views. Riders can enjoy a smoother pace while appreciating the stunning panorama of water, forest, and snow-capped peaks.

Celebration and Support

After completing the full 100-mile loop, participants celebrate their success at La Carmela Bar & Restaurant with a cold beer and a hearty sandwich—a well-earned reward after such an epic ride. Throughout the journey, a support vehicle accompanies the group, offering technical assistance and refreshments whenever needed.

The Lake Llanquihue Cycling Challenge combines endurance, beauty, and camaraderie. It’s not just a ride—it’s an unforgettable experience through the heart of Chile’s Lake District.
