ITINERARY

  • A coordination and information meeting will be held the day before departure.
  • We depart from Puerto Varas at 3:30 AM, heading towards the southern slopes of the volcano. Entering through the Llanquihue National Reserve, we begin our hike through a forest of ancient Ulmo, Tepas, Mañíos, and Alerce trees. In this area, the devastating effects of the eruption are clearly visible.
  • After three and a half hours, we will reach the old refuge destroyed by the eruption.
  • From there, we continue ascending a volcanic stone scree, which leads us to the base of the rock wall. Here, we will rest while the guide, equipped with a rope, secures us from above to climb the rock wall safely. For this section, a harness and helmet are required.
  • To reach the main summit, we will ascend for another thirty minutes before scrambling up steep rocks that lead us to the volcano’s highest point. Here, we will have lunch while enjoying stunning views of the Patagonian Andes, the Reloncaví Sound, Lake Llanquihue, Puerto Montt, and Chiloé Island.
  • We will descend via the same route to reach the vehicle and return to Puerto Varas by late afternoon.
